Can You Get Pregnant While on Birth Control?

Can you get pregnant while on birth control? Yes, while birth control is highly effective, no method is 100% guaranteed to prevent pregnancy.

The effectiveness of birth control depends on the type you use and how consistently you use it. For example, pills, patches, and condoms can be less effective if they aren’t used exactly as directed. Even long-acting methods like IUDs and implants, while effective, still carry a small chance of pregnancy.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), typical use of birth control methods often results in higher pregnancy rates than perfect use because real-life use isn’t always consistent.

If you think you might be pregnant, even if you’re on birth control, it’s important to take a pregnancy test and follow up with an ultrasound. This can confirm how far along you are and whether the pregnancy is developing in the uterus.

At Alight, we offer free, confidential pregnancy testing, on-site ultrasound referrals, and support so you can get clear answers and understand your next steps.

We’re here to help you make informed decisions with confidence. Schedule a free consultation with us today.
